Governance and Accountability

Governance and Accountability

Citizen oversight of public resources, social accountability and inclusion of women and youth in local decision-making.

From 2015 to 2018 EWSFA implemented the Community-Based Public Resource Management and Monitoring Project in Ntchisi District, promoting transparency, accountability, citizen participation and effective management of public resources.

The project built the capacity of community groups, local leaders, women and youth to monitor public resources, track expenditure and engage in local governance. It improved dialogue between citizens and the District Council. A key achievement was identifying corruption and revenue leakages at Malomo Trading Centre, which led to reforms in revenue collection systems and improved financial accountability.

EWSFA also serves as the Secretariat for the Ntchisi Non-State Actors Committee, coordinating stakeholder engagement, advocacy and policy dialogue at district level.
