One Health

One Health

Linking human health, animal health, agriculture and the environment so that disease prevention and ecosystem protection reinforce each other.

EWSFA adopts the One Health approach in recognition of the close relationship between human health, animal health, agriculture and the environment.

Rather than treating safe water, nutrition, disease prevention and environmental protection as separate problems, we programme them together. A protected water source reduces waterborne disease; a backyard garden improves dietary diversity; a restored woodlot protects the catchment that feeds the water source. Through integrated programming we support disease prevention, safe water and sanitation, environmental protection, food security and healthy ecosystems to build resilient and healthy communities.
