Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

Protected wells, boreholes and solar-powered water systems, paired with sanitation and hygiene promotion and the local structures that keep them running.

Between 2017 and 2025 our WASH interventions directly benefited over 12,000 people in Ntchisi District and beyond.

We construct and rehabilitate water points — protected shallow wells fitted with Afridev pumps, boreholes, and solar-powered mechanised systems — and we pair every installation with the community structures that keep it working. Water Point Committees and Water Users Associations are established, trained and supported over the long term, which is why over 95% of the water systems we have installed remain functional.

On the sanitation side we train and certify local field masons who then build household and institutional latrines, and we run hygiene promotion in schools through competitions and the "Brush and Smile" initiative.

What we have delivered

  • Safe water access for 7,366 people through protected wells, boreholes and solar-powered systems
  • 32 protected shallow wells with Afridev pumps serving 480 households
  • 24 boreholes constructed at schools and in communities
  • 8 solar-powered water systems serving 8 schools and surrounding communities
  • 332 community members trained and certified as field masons
  • 792 household and institutional latrines constructed
  • Hygiene education reaching approximately 4,800 learners
  • 32 Village Savings and Loan clubs linked to sanitation and hygiene promotion
